In a brief interview with Byron Linn (Head of Smart Buildings, 3E Group Australia & NZ) we asked him several questions his background, experience and the value he brings to the team and our clients.
What was your first job and what essential lessons did you learn from that experience?
Byron: “First role out of university was Data Analyst for Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL) working on Commonwealth Government accounts nationally. Essential lessons learnt from this experience was working in a large corporate organisation and workplace environment, challenges and time pressure expectations and that appropriate attention detail in data is critical to the downstream outcomes of any sustainability, service, project, or improvement opportunity.”

Byron: “Head of Smart Buildings which incorporates 3E Group Watch, Automation, Power Quality & Maintenance Services. The nature of the role is to identify more strategic, innovative and efficient ways 3E Group can deliver ongoing best in class service delivery to existing clients and the evolving energy, water and waste efficiency marketplace.”
Why did you choose to join the organisation?
Byron: “Having exposure to the business previously, initially on the client side in previous roles for other organisations and then assisting 3E Group in different capacities, I was drawn to the challenge of building ongoing, sustainable solutions for clients who are at different stages of their energy, water and waste efficiency journey.“
What’s your expertise and how does that benefit the team and clients?
Byron: “I’ve previously held senior management and directorship roles of sustainability and facility management teams across small, medium and enterprise portfolios, leading operational and strategic business, and sustainability outcomes for clients. Drawing upon this knowledge and with the assistance of 3E Group’s smart buildings team, deliver innovative service delivery solutions in clients reporting, automation, maintenance, and power quality requirements.”
Byron: “Guiding sustainability outcomes and development of sustainability strategies for some of Australia’ largest Commonwealth property portfolios.”
Greatest personal achievement?
Byron: “Father of two amazing children and husband to an incredible wife!”
From your experience, what are some of the common challenges you see your clients face in relation to achieving their sustainability targets? Now being on board with 3E Group in your role, in what ways are you planning to solve those challenges?
Byron: “Outside of the common challenges such as funding and corporate buy-in for sustainability projects, the bigger challenge witnessed include organisation struggling to develop lasting, actionable sustainability targets and strategies and riding this momentum through to implementation of efficiency outcomes.”
With 3E Group as your multi-disciplined partner, you are guided by experts throughout every stage of your sustainability journey; from conceptualisation, strategy, project design and implementation, through to ongoing service delivery and reporting via 3E Group Smart buildings.
